Hidden like a treasure guarded by the dense mangrove is the Madresal; a place whose reddish water and low salinity have led to the perfect paradise for marine species. This natural sanctuary took the name of a mangrove species that abounds in this area, which is characterized for filtering water and exude salt through its leaves.
Opened a few years ago by a group of fishermen (men and women)and with their own resources from the common land of Ponte Duro, Tonala, Chiapas. It is a place to relax, to take tours to appreciate the flora and fauna preserved in the coastal zone of the Soconusco mangroves; a refuge for birds and mammals. Here you can see animals in complete freedom, such as raccoons, porcupines, crocodiles and numerous species of birds among which are: the fishing hawk, pink spoonbill heron, the snail hawk, the white, green and blue herons, storks, cormorants and several species of ducks.
It has 17 comfortable ecological and cabins , at a cost of $500.00 to S600.00 pesos during the entire year, to accommodate from 1 to 4 people, 2 beds, hammocks, mosquito nets, shower, bathroom, garden area, light and maid service. If you want to live the adventure of camping, this service has a cost of S150.00 pesos or $200.00 with tent included for 2 people.
The Madresal, accommodates more than 400 visitors in 3 areas of palapas (The Palm, The Pargo and The Madresal), equipped with kitchen, bar beverages, furniture and palm made umbrella, they offer mainly seafood with the cooking tradition of the locals , food made of shrimp and fish of the region. The specialties are roasted smooth, baked fish and the Madresal style fish, a local recipe fish fillet topped with sauce, celery and chili.
The commitment with the environment is a priority, so they work hard on conservation projects, such as wetlands, the royal palm, the coastal dunes and the most recent the medicinal plants in the region. A disposable free environment, this sanctuary is promoting the use of nature friendly resources.
