The archeologist Frans Blom and the photographer and journalist, Gertrude Duby, founded Na Bolom  in 1950. It is an institute dedicated to the preservation of cultural and environmental treasures of the Maya area. Na Bolom is located on a building that was abandoned; there it used to be a seminary.

The library has a collection of over 9,000 books on archeology, anthropology and history, mainly of Mayan culture. Na Bolom’s restaurant offers breakfast and lunch “a la carte” and a daily menu served at the traditional dinner time, at 19:00 hrs.
