Comitán Archaeological Museum

Comitan´s Archaeological Museum, located in the region that once was named Balun Canaan, the land that Rosario Castellanos loved a lot. It was opened on August 28, 1993 after restructuring what once was the first federal elementary school at the locality, within the gardens of a sixteenth-century Dominican monastery.

The exterior, which highlights its porch, is a provincial version of Art Deco, widely used in the era of Mexican artistic nationalism. The interior, however, is done according to the traditional way of Comitan: a courtyard surrounded by corridors. A bust of the musician Esteban Alfonso decorates the courtyard.

Museum and botanical garden “Dr. Faustino Miranda”

In the middle of the noise and the chaos that you can find in Tuxtla Gutierrez there is a quiet calm place where you can find peace.  It is the botanical garden that presents a great variety of scenarios throughout the different seasons of the year.

Archaeological Museum of Soconusco

The name of this museum is that it is within the region called Soconusco, located in an interior portion of the Old Municipal Palace of Tapachula, built around 1925, the bulk of its museology is for materials recovered in Izapa, archaeological site near Tapachula. Over five rooms invites you various aspects of pre-Hispanic times. Includes aspects of other cultures in the region, as the very early Chantuto, Preclassic period Olmec ruins, several trails Cacahoat·n, sample Plumbate between the Classic and Postclassic and finally corresponding to the presence and dominance Mexican in the area during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Spanish rule, independence and further development of Soconusco, are also addressed in another room. Among the pieces that stand out are the Stela 25 and a skull with gold leaf and inlaid with turquoise.

Na Bolom home of the jaguar

The archeologist Frans Blom and the photographer and journalist, Gertrude Duby, founded Na Bolom  in 1950. It is an institute dedicated to the preservation of cultural and environmental treasures of the Maya area. Na Bolom is located on a building that was abandoned; there it used to be a seminary.

Na Bolom offers different services, hotel, restaurant, museum, research area (library, map library and archive), a botanical garden and a house of culture.
