At the valley next to the Tacana volcano one of the highest elevations in southern Mexico, the mayans developed one of the most important archaeological sites where the Mixe-Zoque and Mayans lived. Archaeological Tenam Puente

Built on a mountain overlooking the plains Comitan that extends to the Lagos de Montebello. The territorial extension of this prehistoric settlement has been calculated in two square kilometers, on which several buildings were built of such civic, religious and housing, which represent the transition from the classical to classic post (900 to 1200 DC). Archaeological Museum of Soconusco

The name of this museum is that it is within the region called Soconusco, located in an interior portion of the Old Municipal Palace of Tapachula, built around 1925, the bulk of its museology is for materials recovered in Izapa, archaeological site near Tapachula. Over five rooms invites you various aspects of pre-Hispanic times. Includes aspects of other cultures in the region, as the very early Chantuto, Preclassic period Olmec ruins, several trails Cacahoat·n, sample Plumbate between the Classic and Postclassic and finally corresponding to the presence and dominance Mexican in the area during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Spanish rule, independence and further development of Soconusco, are also addressed in another room. Among the pieces that stand out are the Stela 25 and a skull with gold leaf and inlaid with turquoise.
