Built on a mountain overlooking the plains Comitan that extends to the Lagos de Montebello. The territorial extension of this prehistoric settlement has been calculated in two square kilometers, on which several buildings were built of such civic, religious and housing, which represent the transition from the classical to classic post (900 to 1200 DC) . The presence of three ball games, and the Acropolis with its structures four and seven. The buildings were built with blocks of piedra perfectly drawn.

With its strategic location Tenam Bridge allowed its people to exercise control over the trade route linking the highlands of Chiapas and Guatemala with the central depression of Chiapas. The ceramic collections from the excavations of the site, show a very active trade with other remote areas of the region of Comitán, such as shells from the Gulf of México.

Origin The word Tenam is a Náhuatl word meaning fortress, while the word bridge to retake the site of the existing farm early this century, in what is now the commons where you will find this attractive. Their main occupation period is for the Classic and Postclassic periods early, when there is abandonment of the Mayan sites of the central zone, in essence, now occupied by the Department of Peten, Guatemala.

How arrive?

It´s 15 km from Comitán, going to Trinitaria and detour to Francisco Sarabia town, the route is 10 km. from pavement to 5 Km. of dirt, (10 minute ride).

Recommendations:

This place can be visited all year, try to wear comfortable clothing , shoes with nonskid soles, because along the way there are some hilly sections, we suggest a package to bring food, drinking water, sweatshirt and waterproof for rainy season in summer. Do not forget your camera.
