It is a little paradise, combining natural beauty with archaeological remains, with 44 colored lakes low and deep are interconnected, six rivers and two waterfalls, a wide variety of wildlife and trees, this site of interest highly transparent in its waters, has an area of three hundred fifty acres. The colors of the lakes are the result of the nuances of the colors green and blue.

Among the lakes include the Herons, La Ceiba, Forest Blue, Water Ink,  Ixshal and Vista Hermosa, the most important being the so-called “Crystal”, forming together a lush paradise. It’s beauty is enhanced by the proximity of a small ceremonial center the Maya erected: The Lagartero, with its 6 pyramids, ball games and dozens of pre-Columbian constructions, all surrounded by 7 lakes of different colors.

The flora is mainly guanacaste, mahogany, cedar and sapodilla and wildlife a wide variety of fishes and reptiles, as well as the roadrunner, iguana, skunk, turtle and coyote. T here are also, by its lush tropical vegetation, animals such as crocodile, alligator, deer, agouti, armadillo, raccoon, rabbits, skunks, squirrels tame, as well as the chachalaca bird, magpie, pijijis, pigeons, rook, and the river cichlids million, macabiles, carp, tilapia, crabs and snails.

Activities

Visitors will have an affair by the archaeological remains, practice walking in the woods across rivers, swimming, diving, snorkeling and activities such as landscaping, fishing, camping and paddle boating and horse. Available houses, palapas, modules bathrooms, dressing rooms, walkways, parking for 200 vehicles and camping areas.

Recommendations

You should use proper equipment for diving, since the depth of these water bodies is considerable.

The site can be visited 365 days a year. Are suggested for drinking water, clothes and shoes suitable for hiking and waterproof for the rainy season. Bring a tent and camping equipment if you want in place. Access to the site during the rainy season it is very difficult to be an unpaved road.

How to arrive A 58 kilómetros de Comitán, se toma el camino de La Trinitaria hacia Frontera Comalapa, por la carretera panamericana (190) y a la altura de San Gregorio Chamic se localiza un desvío de 12 km que lleva hasta el poblado Cristóbal Colón; ahí se continúa por un sendero de 2 kms, entre árboles de chicozapote, que finalmente conduce a la zona.

Horario: De Lunes a Domingo 9:00 a 17:00 hrs.

Costo: $25 pesos por automóvil. $150 pesos por autobús. $50 pesos por auto o camioneta de hasta 3 toneladas.
