Corpus Christi an artistic dance of tigers, snakes and bees

Along time ago Luciano Toala was taking a walk through the town of Suchiapa when suddenly he heard some music. He wanted to know where it was coming from so he followed the sound until he got to a place inside a tree where he found a honeycomb where the bees were dancing around, he couldn’t believe his eyes so he run and got the people from the village, when everyone came back they found a deer a snake and a tiger worshiping the honeycomb.

Now a day Suchiapa celebrates this event and it has become a tradition that the people from the town celebrate year after year.

Suchiapa “The way of the leaves”

One of the biggest festivities in Suchiapa is the day they honor the “Santa Cruz” (holy Cross). On this day the tradition, which is called the way of the leaves, is about a plant called “espadana”. This plant is found in Nambiyugua and its characterized by its leaves in a shape of a sword and pointy thorns. San Cristóbal de Las Casas

Colonial city that is located at 2,200 m above sea level in the central highlands of the state of Chiapas, México. This city was founded on march 31, 1528 by Captain Diego de Mazariegos, who sets the Ciudad Real de Chiapa of the spanish. It has a population of 185,917 inhabitants*. Named after the bishop Fray Bartolomé de las Casas, defender of the natives of the place during the sixteenth century and inspired the new faith in the “New World”.
