A river well know for its natural walls as result of a geological fracture that turned into a canyon with caves, rapids and waterfalls.

This wonderful place is great for adventurous people as it is full of activities such as hiking.  The sacred canyon belongs to the Biosfera El Ocote and itís about 75 km. long.  You can see how the walls get closer and closer making a deep dark tunnel that turns into a cave where there are no plants, and all you can hear is the different kind of birds that make that their home.

In the past these caves were home to different ethnic groups and this is why it´s considered part of the history of Chiapas.  In the inside there is a pre Hispanic altar and that where it gets its name.  This place is decorated with original prehistoric drawings in red shades and the floor is covered in what is could have been their dishes and vases.

The whole tour if you want to take it is about four to six days where your days are filled with different activities.  The best time to go is in May right before the rainy season, as it could get dangerous.  The unique scenery for the place, the waterfalls and the images will definitely make it an unforgettable trip.
