Lacandones

The Lacandones are one of the most remote ethnic groups that come fro the Maya Culture still remaining. They call themselves “hach winic” which means “real man”.  Some things that stand out from the Lacandones is their handmade work with fabric, ceramic, flutes and a kind of boat called “piraguas” which are boats that only fit 1 to 2 persons.

The name “Lacandon” comes from their very beginnings when they used to live in an island in the Lacantun River, so they were known as “the Lacantun”, with time the name changed to Lacandones.

Río La Venta Canyon the sacred

A river well know for its natural walls as result of a geological fracture that turned into a canyon with caves, rapids and waterfalls.

This wonderful place is great for adventurous people as it is full of activities such as hiking.  The sacred canyon belongs to the Biosfera El Ocote and itís about 75 km. long.  You can see how the walls get closer and closer making a deep dark tunnel that turns into a cave where there are no plants, and all you can hear is the different kind of birds that make that their home.

Izapa Archaeological Zone

At the valley next to the Tacana volcano one of the highest elevations in southern Mexico, the mayans developed one of the most important archaeological sites where the Mixe-Zoque and Mayans lived. This place is named Izapa, considered one of the biggest religious and civic centers on the Pacific Valley.

Nucu a taste of our own

Here in Chiapas there is an exquisite dish that has been around for years and that lots of locals and tourists have enjoyed.  “The Chiapas caviar”.

The nucu is an ant that comes out after the first days of the rain season in Chiapas right before the sunrise.  The nucu comes from out of the ground to get reproduced at this point in some places people collect it to cook it and eat it.  Some other names to the nucu are: chicatana tzimin and zompopo being Nucu the most popular.

En Chiapas, existe un alimento que desde hace tiempo es degustado por los miles de chiapanecos y personas que nos visitan, “el caviar chiapaneco”.

El nucú es una hormiga que después de las primeras lluvias y en la madrugada justo antes de los primeros rayos del sol, sale de la tierra con el fin de aparearse y en algunas localidades del estado lo esperan para recolectarlo, guisarlo y comerlo.

Este viscoso alimento es conocido por distintos nombres de los cuales destacan: chicatana, tzimin y zompopo, siendo nucú el más popular.

Zona Arqueológica de Izapa

Ciencia y cultura en el mismo lugar

A los pies del volcán Tacaná, una de las elevaciones más altas del sureste mexicano, se desarrolló uno de los sitios arqueológicos mas importantes del México prehispánico donde  asentamientos mixe-zoque y mayas habitaron. En este sitio se asentó Izapa, considerado el centro cívico y religioso más grande de la llanura del Pacífico.

El asentamiento urbano del año 1500 a.C está integrado por aproximadamente 80 estructuras que delimitan plazas, patios, canchas para el juego de pelota y un complejo sistema hidráulico para el manejo del agua.

Cañón Río La Venta, el cañón sagrado

Río conocido por su recorrido en medio de dos paredes naturales,  resultado de una fractura geológica  que da lugar a un cañón en el que destacan sus cuevas, cavernas, rápidos y cascadas.

Esta belleza natural accessible para expedicionarios de gran preparación y con equipo especializado pertenece a la  Reserva de la Biosfera “El Ocote”, tiene aproximadamente 75km de longitud, sus paredes van uniéndose hasta convertirse en  una cueva obscura, donde ya no existe la vegetación y se identifica por el esplendoroso ruido de cotorros y distintas aves que lo habitan.

Lacandones, encuentro con las raíces

Los lacandones son uno de los grupos Ètnicos más remotos que provienen de la cultura maya.

Se hacen llamar a sí mismos “hach winic”, que significa verdaderos hombres, dentro de sus actividades más reconocidas podemos nombrar la fábrica de textiles y elaboración de cerámica, flautas y piraguas, que son una especie de embarcaciones remadas por palas donde solo caben 1 o 2 personas.

El nombre Lacandones proviene desde sus comienzos, pues  al principio habitaban una isla en medio del ríoo Lacantún, por lo que se les conocía como “los de Lacantum”,  y con el paso del tiempo se modifico a Lacandones.
